Ava Man Arrested Animal Cruelty, Harassment Charges

Ava, MO. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department recently released information on the arrest of a 72-year-old man who was taken into custody for multiple felony warrants.

Reports involving James Aborn started in January of this year, beginning on the 22nd with a report of a neighbor finding their dog deceased under their porch with an apparent gunshot wound.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the likely suspect in the shooting of the family pet was a neighbor, James Lee Aborn, 72 of Ava. Another neighbor also revealed that several cats were similarly shot and killed, likely by the same person.

Further incidents include Aborn shooting squirrels to lure cats onto the property to shoot them as well, in addition to harassment and indecent exposure.

Aborn turned himself into the Sheriff’s Office on February 4th, with arrest charges including four counts of Felony Harassment, one misdemeanor count of 1st Degree Sexual Misconduct, and one misdemeanor of Animal Abuse.
