On December 8, 2020, Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase and Deputy K. Roberts served a search warrant in western Douglas County on Jeffery Herrell, 58, of Ava. Herrell is a registered sex offender in Douglas County.
The search warrant was a result of an investigation conducted by Sheriff Degase into a past rape that occurred in October of this year. As a result of this search warrant, items of child pornography were seized.
A warrant was obtained for Herrell for Rape 1st Degree an Unclassified Felony, Possession of Child Pornography containing videos a Class B Felony, and 4 counts of Possession of Child Pornography each are Class D Felony. Associate Circuit Judge Elizabeth Bock issued a no bond warrant and Herrell is still currently incarcerated in the Douglas County Jail.
Sheriff Degase was assisted by the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force.
