Ava Man Arrested on Sex Offender Related Charges

Ava, MO. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office recently announced that an extended investigation, in cooperation with the Southwest Missouri and Cyber Crimes Taskforce and Homeland Security, has resulted in the arrest of one man from Ava.

The suspect was identified as Terry Butler, a 32-year-old man who moved into the area from Alaska. Butler originally held a felony conviction from Alaska, which required him to register with the Missouri Sex Offender registry. Butler failed to do so, which led to the investigation.

When the search warrant was served, numerous electronics and data storage devices were seized from Butler’s residence, in addition to firearms that were found. A warrant was later issued for Butler, with 2 Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. No bond was set.
