AVA, Mo. — An Ava man has been indicted by a Douglas County grand jury on charges of possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, with prosecutors also alleging he qualifies as a prior and persistent felony offender.
Cory Eugene Goodman faces one class D felony count of possession of a controlled substance and one class A misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia with a prior drug offense.
The indictment was filed Sept. 14 in Douglas County Circuit Court.
According to the indictment, Goodman allegedly possessed methamphetamine on or about Aug. 25 in Douglas County while knowing of its presence and nature. Prosecutors allege Goodman qualifies as a prior drug offender and a persistent drug offender because of previous controlled substance related felony convictions. Indictment – Goodma
The indictment lists a Sept. 3, 2013, Douglas County conviction for felony possession of drug paraphernalia involving methamphetamine or amphetamine and a March 6, 2012, Douglas County conviction for felony possession of a controlled substance. Indictment – Goodma
Prosecutors also allege Goodman is a prior and persistent felony offender based on additional convictions, including a Sept. 2, 2025, Douglas County conviction for hindering prosecution of a felony and a July 22, 2026, Douglas County conviction for stealing a motor vehicle. Indictment – Goodma
The second count alleges Goodman possessed a snorting device on Aug. 25 with the intent to use it to ingest a controlled substance or imitation controlled substance. The indictment cites his 2012 controlled substance conviction in support of the prior drug offense allegation attached to the paraphernalia charge. Indictment – Goodma
Associate Circuit Judge Elizabeth A. Bock ordered Goodman’s release on his own recognizance under conditions carried over from his Division 2 case. According to the bond conditions attached to the indictment, Goodman was ordered to participate in the court program. Indictment – Goodma
A criminal summons was issued Sept. 16. Goodman is scheduled for arraignment at 9 a.m. Oct. 21 before Judge R. Craig Carter in Douglas County Circuit Court.
All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
