Ava Man Killed When Truck Goes Airborne, Hits Tractor Trailer near Mansfield

Willow Springs, Mo. – An Ava man was killed in a Wednesday afternoon crash near Mansfield. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred at 12:20 p.m. on US 60, one mile east of Mansfield on March 9, 2022.

An eastbound 2010 Chevy 1500 driven by Daniel Adkins, 66 of Ava, traveled off the left side of the roadway and into the median before becoming airborne and impacting a 2019 Peterbuilt 579 driven by Eddy Bird, 55 of Stilwell, Oklahoma. The Chevy then continued to travel off the left side of the roadway and into a bluff.

Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene. He had not been wearing a seat belt. Bird was not injured in the accident and his vehicle had suffered minor damage. Bird had been wearing a seat belt.

This is the fifth fatality for MSHP Troop G in 2022, compared to eight for the same time in 2021.
