Baxter County Inmates Attempt to Create Prison Weapon; Receive Additional Charges.

Mountain Home, AR. – Two inmates in the Baxter County Detention Center are looking at additional charges on their records as they were caught fashioning a broom handle into a prison weapon, according to a recent report.

Details from the probable cause affidavit state that nursing staff spotted inmates Jonathan Smith and David Peifer on the video surveillance system trying to twist a metal broom handle within a doorway.

This spurred investigation by law enforcement. The handle was found in a trash can in the cell of Peifer, where it was shown to have been shaped into a crude shank.

Both Smith and Peifer will be facing additional charges of Impairing the Operation of a Public Facility, Possession of Weapons by an Incarcerated Person, and Criminal Mischief.
