In order to promote wildlife education and to bring awareness and improvements to local school conservation programs, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission Division of Rural Services has awarded over half a million dollars to various schools in Arkansas.
Multiple counties in our listening area received funds through this action, including Izard, Marion, Stone, Baxter, and Fulton Counties.
Baxter County received $11,660 split between four entities: the Baxter County Conservation District, the Hacker Intermediate School, the Mountain Home Junior High School, and the Pinkston Middle School.
Fulton County received $11,643 split between three entities: Mammoth Spring, Salem, and Viola High Schools.
Izard County received $2,670 between three entities: the Calico Rock and Melborne High Schools, and the Izard County Consolidated Elementary.
Marion County received $1,776 for the Flippin School District.
Stone County received $4,350 for the Mountain View High School.
The money for these grants was collected through fines issued from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission from hunting and fishing violations. Grant distribution is decided by the location in which the fines were issued.
