According to a statement from the Shannon County Sherriff’s Department, the Birch Tree Elementary was put into lockdown yesterday due to a “volatile” situation happening one-mile from the school. The Sherriff’s Department contacted school staff and the School Resource Officer and the school was locked down for precautionary measures. Shannon County Sherriff made the following statement:
“Out of respect for the ongoing investigation and to maintain its integrity, no further details will be released at this time.
The safety of our children remains my highest priority. The lockdown has since been lifted, and normal operations have resumed”.
