Baxter County, AR. – The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office recently announced that they have started investigating a death on Moccasin Creek.
Shortly after 8 a.m. on the morning of August 15, 2024, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a motorist who was driving on State Highway 5 South after he saw a body floating in Moccasin Creek. Deputies and other responders arrived on the scene and found a nude decomposing body floating in the creek. They were able to tell that the body was that of an adult male but they did not have an identification at this time. Deputies canvassed the residences in the area but reported that nobody who was contacted had any information as to who he might be.
An officer with the Mountain Home Police Department responded to the area with a drone, which he flew over the general area to look for any other evidence, but nothing was found.
The body was removed by the Baxter County Coroner’s Office. The deceased will be sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death and to assist in attempting to identify the decedent.
