West Plains, MO. – The West Plains Boys & Girls Club has obtained some new equipment in the form of a solar panel, as part of a sustainable gardening program meant to teach their club members.
This was made possible through multiple donors, including:
The West Plains Community Garden, who assisted with the grant provided by the Positive Sprouts Program.
The 2019 Louis L and Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation grant, which paid for the solar panel itself.
Danny Dye’s class at South Central Career Center, who provided the labor in creating the mount for the solar panel and other assembly.
And The Battery Station, having installed the panel and providing the work dealing with the intricacies of solar technology.
Through the teamwork and collaboration of these different groups, the local B&G Club will be able to participate in the Positive Sprouts Program, which is a program made in collaboration with Amway. This program was made with the intention of teaching children the importance of growing and preparing their own food, as well as sustainable practices for doing so.
The fruits and vegetables prepared by this program will be incorporated into the snacks and meals that students receive, giving them a first-person perspective on the results of labors they might partake in.
