Howell County Sheriff finds possible Explosive Device

Update: 1:00 p.m. Feb. 19, 2023 – At approximately 1200 hours Missouri State Highway Bomb Squad arrived on scene. Upon their arrival, Bomb Squad personnel confirmed the device was an active explosive device. The device was assessed, moved to a safe location, and rendered safe. 

BREAKING: Feb. 19, 2023, 9:30 a.m. – The Howell County Sheriff’s Office has discovered a possible explosive device following a 9-1-1 call on a vehicle.

On Sunday morning at 7:09 a.m., Howell County Dispatch received a call of a vehicle stopped in the roadway on County Road 5130.  According to the Reporting Party, a male subject was slumped over the steering wheel of the vehicle.  

Deputies responded to the location where they made contact with the driver. It was found the driver had a suspended Missouri Driver’s License. The driver was placed under arrest for Driving While Suspended.   

During the course of the investigation Deputies located what is believed to be a homemade explosive device in the vehicle. Upon locating the device, Deputies contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol Bomb Squad in Jefferson City for assistance. Deputies are currently still on the scene and awaiting the arrival of the Bomb Squad. 

This is an ongoing incident and residents are asked to avoid the area. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
