Springfield, MO. – Are you one of those people who think about the creepy crawlies and slithering serpents as we get into summer? Whether you’re someone who worries or welcomes these creatures into your yards and gardens as we get into the throes of the season, the Missouri Department of Conservation is giving you a chance to learn about one major thing you need to be aware of: venomous snakes.
This program, which is intended to help the regular citizen separate facts and fiction when it comes to serpents, will happen on July 9th online. This lesson is called “Venomous Snakes of Missouri”, and is being organized by staff of the Springfield Conservation Nature Center from 2 to 3pm. This lesson is free, and is intended for people of all ages, making this an excellent lesson for both kids and adults alike.
During the lesson, MDC Naturalist Sam Grove will speak about the various venomous serpents in Missouri, and the best way to identify them. He will also address certain myths, such as copperheads traveling in pairs, or the venom of the baby snake being more potent than its adult counterpart.
