Caulfield Community Building Closed Until Further Notice Due to Lack of Funding

Caulfield, MO – After careful consideration and a thorough review of the budget, the Board of the Caulfield Community Building (CCB) has voted to close the facility until sufficient funding becomes available to cover operational expenses.

The CCB requires approximately $5,000 per year to cover basic operational costs, including insurance, electricity, and propane. Following renovations completed in 2023, the board opted to maintain low rental fees in response to community needs. However, with rising expenses due to inflation, the revenue generated from usage fees has not been enough to sustain the facility.

Despite widespread support on social media and engagement with the board, fundraising efforts earlier this year resulted in only $150 in donations. While many community members have expressed interest in organizing fundraising events, the board recognizes that numerous benefit auctions and events are already being held to support individuals facing health crises. In light of this, the board has chosen not to compete with these efforts but instead is appealing directly to the community for donations.

The Caulfield Community Building, established in 1963, has long served as the cornerstone and a landmark of the community. It has provided a space for birthday parties, family reunions, benefit auctions, and other community gatherings. The Caulfield community itself spans across Howell and Ozark counties, and the CCB remains one of the few shared spaces available for residents to come together.

“The Caulfield Community Building has been the heart of our town for over 60 years,” said Board President Randy Harper. “So many of us have fond memories of celebrations, family gatherings, and community events held here. It’s heartbreaking to see it close, but we have faith that with the generosity of our neighbors, we can reopen the doors and continue serving this community for generations to come.”

The board remains committed to reopening the CCB as soon as they reach their funding goal. Community members who wish to contribute and help keep the facility operational can do so through the following methods:

1.      Drop off donations: Visit any West Plains Bank branch and request to deposit into the Caulfield Community Association account.

2.      Mail a check: Send contributions to P.O. Box 4, Caulfield, MO 65626.

3.      PayPal: Donate via @Caulfieldcommunity.

4.      Contact: For further inquiries or to make arrangements, reach out to Susie Williams at417-293-5288.

The board sincerely thanks the community for their ongoing support and looks forward to reopening the Caulfield Community Building in the near future.
