Centerville man dies in Licking prison after serving four months for murder

West Plains, MO. – A Centerville man was pronounced deceased Wednesday night at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, Missouri.

At 11:47 p.m. on September 20, offender Jason Wayne Baker was pronounced deceased. Baker was a 45-year-old man serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

On June 20, 2021, Father’s Day, Baker gunned down Chelsea Conway, the mother of his two children. Before succumbing to her injuries, she was able to tell law enforcement that it was Baker who shot her. Events of the murder were recorded on Baker’s mountable camera that was placed inside his vehicle.

Baker pleaded guilty to the charges on May 16, 2023, and was received in the Missouri Department of Corrections on May 24th.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
