Missouri – Mercy and CoxHealth collaborated for a year to determine the best pediatric partner to bring to Springfield. Mercy and CoxHealth could not agree on a partner, so Mercy decided to bring Children’s Mercy to the Mercy Hospital campus in Springfield. After surveying 300 children’s healthcare decision-makers, it was made clear that there was a significant preference for Children’s Mercy as the pediatric care wanted in the town of Springfield.
Children’s Mercy Kansas City has a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center, a Level 1 pediatric trauma center, and the busiest critical care transport department in the country. It is still being decided what Children’s Mercy will offer to Springfield. The decision will be announced at a later date. The Mercy Hospital had decided to bring a children’s care facility locally. It was stated that 27% of all patients had to leave the region for this type of care and now it will be available in southern Missouri.
