City of Mtn. View announces COVID-19 closures

The City of Mountain View has been working with the Governor’s Office, FEMA, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the Howell County Health Department, and local Law Enforcement to continue to monitor the risks associated with the coronavirus.

The Missouri Health Association and the CDC recommend that businesses, organizations, and residents make public safety and health a priority by limiting the number of people gathered in an area to ten (10).  We also encourage you to take step to ensure that your customers, employees, and family members are protected by using good sanitation practices and using good personal hygiene. The Mountain View Board of Aldermen feel that decisions regarding temporary closures, limited public access, and reduction of services are best made by the leaders and owners of those organizations and businesses.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services activated a statewide public hotline for citizens or providers needing guidance regarding COVID-19.  The hotline is open and can be reached at (877) 435-8411.  The hotline is being operated by medical professionals and is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  The Governor has postponed the April 7th general election to June 2nd.  If you suspect price gouging due to the pandemic, the Governor’s office has also provided a telephone hotline and can be reached at (800) 392-8222.

At the recommendation of the SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging located in Springfield, Missouri, the Mountain View Board of Aldermen has closed the Mountain View Senior Center effective until March 30th, 2020.  The city has also cancelled the April 2nd town hall meeting and the April 13th, 2020 Council meeting.  These meetings will be rescheduled at a later date.  No other changes to the City operations or offices have been made at this time.

To limit face-to-face contact with city employees, we encourage you to use other methods of communication if possible.  We have drop boxes located behind city hall and on the northeast corner of the city hall building for utility and court payments.  The City will continue to monitor the situation and could make changes to operation schedules as needed.

The Mountain View community has always taken pride in how we come together as a community to look out for one another and, certainly, now is a good time to come together.  Please remain calm.   The hoarding of cleaning supplies or other basic goods can have a detrimental effect on your neighbors and to the community’s ability to respond to this health crisis. The City is taking necessary steps to help ensure public health and safety and will keep you informed as information is made available.
