The City of West Plains is changing the name of the Animal Control Unit to “Animal Care and Control Unit” to better capture the mission and values of the Unit. Much of the responsibility of the Unit is to care for the domestic animals and pets in our community and investigate those who cause abuse or harm to animals.
With the hiring of our new member in the Unit the Department felt this to be the best time to change the Unit’s name to better describe the functions of the Animal Care and Control Unit.
The Animal Care and Control Unit is responsible for enforcing Missouri Comprehensive Animal Laws, as well as the local ordinances relating to domestic animals. It identifies public safety issues and works directly with the community on animal and pet care issues.
Our new Animal Care and Control Officer, Officer Brad Jones, serves as a liaison to and with the other shelters and pet caregivers that provide care to the pets in our community. The Animal Care and Control office handles calls for service, requests for information and impounds and cares for domestic animals daily.
