Assistant Fire Chief Kurt Wilbanks has been appointed to interim Fire Chief after the retirement of Fire Chief Roy Sims. Wilbanks will serve as interim Fire Chief until a permanent chief is hired.
Wilbanks began his career with the West Plains Fire Department in 1996 as a paid-on-call firefighter. In April of 1998 he was hired as a full-time laborer for the City of West Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant and in 1999 he transferred to the fire department as a fire engineer. He was promoted to Fire Captain in 2007 and appointed to Assistant Fire Chief in 2017.
