City of West Plains Hires Tourism Coordinator

Melissa Amyx Smith was recently hired as Tourism Coordinator for the City of West Plains. Her duties include the operation and management of the Ozark Heritage Welcome Center, including staff supervision, budgeting and finances, administration of the community grant program, social media, and promoting area events, attractions, and services.

Smith began her career with Missouri State University-West Plains as a Graphic Designer/Public Relations Writer. Later in her career she opened At Home Market and after awhile in retail sales was the owner and designer of Houndstooth & Polka Dots, designing and selling merchandise all over the United States. Most recently, she worked in the Marketing & Public Relations Department for Ozarks Medical Center, winning awards for various graphic design projects for the hospital.

Smith is a native of West Plains, with a degree from Drury University and a 1986 graduate of West Plains High School. She has three children, Shelby, Karsyn, and Sawyer.
