Cotter Residents to Honor Community Pillar

Cotter, Arkansas:  The citizens of Cotter are in mourning with the passing of their knight in shining armor, Peter Peitz.  Peter left this world on November 26, 2024.  Peter’s impact on Cotter and on Baxter County had no bounds.  His selfless generosity as a leader and friend brought about positive change in many, many areas.  His legacy is fascinating.  Please take the time to read his story at:  Peter and Jan Peitz, Legacy Donors

The Cotter Bridge will be illuminated nightly in Peter’s honor on December 8, 2024, through December 14, 2024.  Each night, we will share a short story about Peter on Tonight’s Lights  and on Cotter Bridge Facebook Page .  The bridge will be lit with a color scheme honoring that story.  If you aren’t able to view the lights onsite at Big Spring Park in Cotter, please view them through our live webcam:  Cotter Bridge Live Webcam

Peter and Jan Peitz were instrumental in lighting the Cotter Bridge.  Their leadership set the stage for many other generous donors to follow their lead, and we are so thankful to Peter and Jan for giving this gift to our community.  The Peitz River Lights naming commemorates their generosity through the naming of the lights.  Peter’s passing will leave a significant void in our community.  We are grateful for the time he spent on this Earth.

About the Cotter Bridge:  The Cotter Bridge is one of Cotter’s most historical objects. The iconic structure is the longest concrete “rainbow” arch bridge in the United States. The six-span structure was built by the Bateman Contracting Company of Nashville, Tennessee in 1929 from a design patented in 1912 by James Marsh of Marsh Engineering Company. Restoration of the historic bridge was completed in 2004. Today, the bridge is a point of pride for the city of Cotter and is a must-see destination for visitors to the Arkansas Ozarks.
