Court on hold for couple charged with stealing over $200,000 while new judge is assigned

West Plains, MO. – A Pottersville couple that has been accused of stealing over $200,000 from the husband’s elderly mother is waiting on a new judge to be appointed to the case.

Jeffrey and Juanita Proffitt are charged with Stealing $25,000 or more and Financial Exploitation of Elder/Disabled Person. On the 9th of November, the attorney for the couple filed for a change of judge, which was granted by Judge Steven Privette. Future trial dates have been canceled while the Missouri Supreme Court assigns a new judge to the case.

According to the probable cause statement, the couple stole over $204,273.35 from Jeffrey’s mother from July 2019 to August 2021.

Following our initial story on their arrest, Juanita Proffitt called Ozark Radio News, claiming that she and Jeffrey were innocent and informing us of corrections needed for the article.

The Proffitts run an excavating company and farm under the name Jeff Proffitt Inc in Pottersville, Missouri.
