COVID-19: Public health reminders

One of the most difficult parts of the COVID-19 pandemic has been maintaining distance from family and friends. The One for All Missouri campaign would like to share some helpful tips and reminders for keeping yourself and loved ones healthy during this time:

  • While COVID-19 can affect any of us, older people and people with pre-existing medical conditions (like asthma, lung disease, diabetes, or heart disease) appear to be highest risk of becoming severely ill with the virus.
  • Staying at home and keeping in touch remotely continues to be the safest course of action for people at higher risk.
  • It is up to you and your loved ones to decide whether you are comfortable with the risk of visiting each other.
  • Only you know how well you have been following public health guidelines to avoid exposure to COVID-19.
  • Remember that some people who have COVID-19 do not feel sick or show symptoms but can still spread the virus to others.
  • If you decide to visit, plan ahead and take action to reduce the risks.
  • Practice physical distancing by staying at least 6 feet apart and avoiding close contact like hugging and kissing.
  • Wear a cloth face covering or mask over your nose and mouth.
  • Visit outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and keep your visit brief.
  • Long-term care facilities like nursing homes will begin slowly reopening to visitors in a phased approach.
  • Facilities will require visitor screening, physical distancing, masking, and hand hygiene to keep residents safe as they reopen.
  • If you are planning a visit, check with the facility about their specific requirements before visiting.
  • It is impossible to predict exactly when we will be able to fully return to more familiar way of life without these restrictions. The more we follow best practices to stop the spread, the sooner it will happen.
