Criminal Setting rescheduled for the third time since new judge appointed to Proffitt Theft Case

West Plains, MO. – The criminal setting hearing for the couple accused of stealing over $200,000 from the elderly mother of one of them has been rescheduled for the third time. 

Jeffrey and Juanita Proffitt are charged with Financial Exploitation of an Elder/Disabled Person and Stealing $25,000 or more, both felonies. The couple is accused of stealing over $204,273.35 from Jeffrey’s mother from July 2019 to August 2021, according to the probable cause statement.

Howell County Judge Robert Ray was assigned to the case in November of 2022 following a motion by the defense for a change of judge. Since that time, January 26th and March 9th were scheduled as previous dates for the criminal setting only for the case to be passed. On March 9th, the case was passed again to April 27th, 2023.
