West Plains, MO. – The West Plains R-Vll School District will begin the 2024-2025 school year on Monday, August 19, 2024. They recently released a list of dates of open houses and orientations for each grade and school.
The South Fork Elementary:

- Preschool and Kindergarten open house will be held on August 15 at 5:00 p.m.
- The open house for the 1st through 6th grades will be held by appointment on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The signup times will start at noon and continue through 7:00 p.m. Each classroom teacher will schedule a 10 to 15-minute conference with each parent.
West Plains Elementary:
- The elementary school will host their walk-in open house on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This will be for 1st through 4th grades only.
- On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. there will be A Day In Kindergarten. Kindergarten teachers will be calling families to set up appointments one week before this event.
- Preschool orientation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. The preschool teachers will call the families to set up appointments for this day.
West Plains Middle School:
- The West Plains Middle School 5th grade orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, with presentations and tours from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. The 5th-grade orientation will focus on a successful transition from the elementary to the middle school environment. During this event, the school will introduce 5th-grade teachers, review WPMS policies and procedures, and tour the building and classrooms. Students will be mailed a letter one week before the event with an invitation and more details about the orientation.
- There will be a walk-in open house for the 6th through 8th graders on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. Students will be able to pick up schedules on August 13 from noon to 7 p.m. and on August 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
West Plains High School:
- New student enrollment opens on August 1, 2024. Click here for information.
- Schedule pickup will be August 6-8 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the West Plains High School.
- The West Plains High School will host an incoming freshmen “Zizzer Day” on Wednesday, August 14, from 8:30 am – 1:00 pm. Students will participate in activities that better prepare them for the transition into high school. Incoming freshmen students will have the opportunity to go through a mini-schedule, learn about various clubs and activities at the activity fair, have lunch, and become familiar with the building, including finding their lockers. The West Plains High School faculty and staff members will provide parents with invaluable insight to help students and their families prepare for high school.
- The will be a walk-in open house for all high school grades on August 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
