Deconstruction of Fire-Damaged Main Street Building Begins today.

West Plains, MO. – Demolition of the former Powell – Crews Title and Escrow on East Main Street in West Plains began this morning. The building is being removed nearly five months following a fire that destroyed much of the structure. 

The fire began around 3 a.m. on the morning of February 1, 2022. Multiple firefighter from West Plains, Willow Springs, and 15 other crews battled the blaze and it was considered contained around 9 a.m. that day.

There were no physical injuries in the structure. One firefighter suffered minor injuries while working the scene and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

The section of East Main Street near the building is closed during demolition and is expected to reopen Friday afternoon.
