Dora R-III School District Welcomes New Elementary Principal: Mr. Aaron Burton

Dora, MO – The Dora R-III School District is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Aaron Burton as the new Elementary Principal, stepping into the role following the upcoming departure of current principal Sherry Ross. With over two decades of educational experience and a deep passion for student success, Mr. Burton is set to bring fresh energy and seasoned leadership to the Dora Falcons team.

Mr. Burton is entering his 21st year in education during the 2025–2026 school year. His experience includes five years in Physical Education and as an Alternative Director, as well as coaching in softball, basketball, and baseball. Most notably, he has spent 15 years in school administration, serving 10 years as a PreK–6 Principal and five years as an Alternative School Principal for grades 4–12. He holds a Bachelor’s in Education, a Master’s, and a Specialist Degree in Administration.

A native of Louisiana, Mr. Burton was born at Barksdale Air Force Base and comes from a proud military family. He grew up in a small town, worked on a cotton farm, and played baseball and basketball. These formative experiences cultivated his appreciation for education and rural life. A graduate of Central Baptist College, Mr. Burton and his wife, Delicia, who is joining Dora R-III as the new Junior High Communication Arts teacher, have been married for 27 years and share four children and two grandchildren.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Burton is an avid outdoorsman and a dedicated associate pastor who has led mission trips to countries such as Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Africa. His faith and dedication to service play a significant role in shaping his leadership and educational philosophy.

When asked why he chose Dora, Mr. Burton shared, “The opportunity to call Dora my home and school is beyond exciting—a blessing. The atmosphere, setting, and culture are exactly what I grew up in, and I can’t wait to earn my spot with the students, teachers, and community.”
