Dose of Goodness: Running and Walking with Heart: Local Communities Show Up Big for Autism Awareness

This weekend, Children’s Behavioral Health Services hosted an Autism 5K Color Fun Run/Walk in both Willow Springs and Mountain Grove to raise funds for local programs supporting children with autism and other disabilities.

I had the honor of attending this uplifting event, and it was truly a moment worth celebrating. The turnout was nothing short of heartwarming—people from across southern Missouri gathered to support an incredible cause. Families pushed strollers along the route, young children laughed and played through the entire 5K, and elderly participants walked alongside friends and neighbors. It was a beautiful display of compassion, unity, and community spirit.

In Willow Springs, residents lined the streets to cheer on runners and walkers as they passed. The positive energy was contagious, and it was clear that everyone there was driven by a shared goal: to make a difference in the lives of local children.

Thanks to the overwhelming support, Children’s Behavioral Health Services was able to donate funds to local groups that provide much-needed assistance to children with developmental challenges. Events like this prove how powerful our community can be when we come together for a purpose greater than ourselves.

More About Children’s Behavioral Health Services
Empowering Every Child’s Unique Potential through ABA, Occupational Therapy, and Unwavering Support.

This local therapy center continues to make a lasting impact by offering comprehensive services to support the developmental and communication needs of children. Their offerings include:

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA): Available for individuals with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis from a licensed physician or clinical psychologist. A full diagnostic evaluation is required before services can begin.

  • Occupational Therapy (OT): Offered for individuals with a medical need. A prescription or order from a healthcare provider is typically required, though an autism diagnosis is not.

  • Speech-Language Pathology (SLP): Requires a physician’s referral indicating the need for speech therapy.

While the clinic does not currently offer diagnostic services for ASD, it provides a helpful list of regional providers and additional resources through the Missouri Department of Mental Health website.

This Dose of Goodness is a heartfelt thank you to every individual who shows up, shares, and supports fundraisers and community events like this one. Your compassion helps brighten lives—human and animal alike. Thank you to everyone who came out to support children with autism and to help build a more inclusive, empowered future for all.
