Ava, MO. – The Douglas County Commissioner and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department assisted one another in catching a County Road Employee who was reported as being intoxicated while at work.
This occurred on April 27th, and began when Douglas County Commissioner Brad Loveless received information that a County Road employee was likely intoxicated at work. Loveless then brought the information to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and travelled to the County Shed, where he found the employee had already left.
Contact was made with the driver, and the driver stated he was travelling toward Ava. This ended with Douglas County Deputy Dering stopping the vehicle on Highway 14, and finding the driver, William Cupples, a 45-year-old from Gentryville, had been driving while 3 times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
Cupples was arrested and reportedly held for 24 hours due to there being a small child in the vehicle at the time of arrest. He has since been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and DWI – Person less than 17 Years of age in Vehicle.
