Douglas County Sheriffs Office Implements New Feature for 911

Ava, Mo. – As of December 7, 2021, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is implementing the first phase of a new 911 system. When an individual calls 911 from their mobile device within Douglas County their location will appear on the map with their number and any other information made available by the caller, which assists the police in getting to your location in a more quick and timely manner.

If you are an Apple device user you will be able to enter emergency and medical information into your Apple device which will appear when you call 911. This would include contact info, medical information, etc. that would be helpful in an emergency situation. If you do not have an Apple device your location will still appear on the map advising of your location but will not have any other emergency or medical information available.

This system is currently for pinpointing your location when using a wireless device like a cell phone. This service is not yet available for landlines. Knowing your address and being able to give directions to your location is still very important.
