Dr. Jason McCollom Receives Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

Missouri State University-West Plains  proudly announced today that Dr. Jason McCollom, associate professor of history, has received the prestigious 2025 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

The honor was bestowed during a ceremony held April 2 in Jefferson City, where the Council on Public Higher Education recognized outstanding educators from Missouri’s public colleges and universities. The annual award celebrates faculty members who exemplify exceptional teaching, innovation in course design, student mentorship, institutional service, and a strong commitment to academic success.

Dr. McCollom, who has taught for 15 years—10 of those at MSU-WP—was selected by a committee of faculty peers, with nominations and input from students and colleagues.

Beyond the lecture hall, Dr. McCollom serves as department chair and is deeply involved in regional history initiatives. He is a key member of the steering committee for the Ozarks Heritage Research Center, contributing significantly to its vision and development. He also directs the annual Ozarks Symposium, a respected gathering that brings together scholars and community members to explore and celebrate the region’s unique history and culture.
