The National Weather Service in Springfield announced yesterday through their weather packets that drought conditions in the Ozarks have worsened, up to two categories depending on location.
According to the weather packet, affected counties in our area include Phelps, Webster, Laclede, Douglas, Howell, Ozark, and Oregon. Currently, northern counties are experiencing patches of D2 level intensity drought, with Douglas, Howell, Oregon, and Ozark counties now being affected by D1 level intensity.
The classification system for droughts exists on a sliding scale of 0 to 4, with 0 being precursor drought conditions and D4 being the worst.
In addition to this, the statement includes a projection of drought conditions into February of next year. With expectations of increased rainfall over the 2023–2024 winter, drought conditions across our broadcast range are expected to be removed.
