DWI crash results in two people in critical condition

On Thursday, February 25 at approximately 10 p.m., the West Plains Police Department responded to the intersection of US Highway 63 and State Route CC for a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash with serious injuries and entrapment.

During the investigation of the crash, it was learned a north bound Dodge Caravan driven by 36-year-old Daniel French of West Plains made a left hand turn on a red light at the intersection and collided with a south bound Jeep Grand Cherokee causing one occupant to become entrapped and one occupant to be ejected. Both occupants of the Jeep were transported to Springfield in critical condition. Their names are not being released at this time.

French was taken into custody and is currently on a 24-hour hold for pending charges of Driving While Intoxicated (PRIOR OFFENDER) and two counts of Assault-2nd Degree. Documents are being sent to the Howell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for the formal filing of charges.
