West Plains, MO. – The city of Eminence, Missouri in Shannon County is under a boil water advisory after the city’s water tower ran empty due to being unpowered. A spokesperson for the city announced that the boil advisory will be effective immediately and will last until water samples return following state testing.
The water tower emptied when power was lost due to this week’s snow storm. An electric generator is being acquisitioned and should arrive at noon on January 26th. Filling of the tower will take roughly 12 hours and samples will not be taken until the filling is complete.
Citizens in the city of Eminence and whose water is depended on from the city are being asked to boil their water until the samples are tested and are found safe. A public water system may issue a boil water advisory when there is concern that a problem with drinking water may exist, but it has not yet been confirmed. These are most commonly issued for major water main breaks or other low-pressure events where the possibility of contamination intrusion exists. They may also be issued while waiting for results of confirmation samples collected for bacteriological analysis, which can take up to two days plus the time required to transport samples to the laboratory.
