WEST PLAINS, Mo – Nashmia Riaz, Board-Certified Endocrinologist, recently joined the multi-disciplinary Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) Medical Group. Dr. Riaz brings over 11 years of clinical experience to the newly established OMC Endocrinology clinic.
Endocrinology is the field of hormone-related diseases. Hormones regulate metabolism, respiration, growth, reproduction, sensory perception, and movement. OMC Endocrinology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hormone conditions and the complications that arise from them in patients of all ages. They are experts in conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, and polycystic ovary disease.
Dr. Riaz completed a fellowship in geriatrics at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, as well as a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at the University of Texas in Galveston. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Michigan State University and earned her medical degree from Aga Khan University Medical College, Pakistan, where she also served as a teaching assistant.
On relocating to West Plains with her husband, Hussain Ibrahim, MD, Interventional Cardiologist, she said they were attracted to the small-town feel and beauty of the area. Having both worked in various big cities, but growing up in smaller towns, the couple wanted to live in a small town. She also said that she loves the variety of dining options offered here, especially anywhere that serves noodles.
Dr. Riaz’s interest in medicine began in childhood as we experienced many illnesses requiring hospitalization. It was there she became fascinated with the hospital and knew that she wanted to help people. Her specific interests led her to the analytic nature of endocrinology and how the specialty affects so many organ systems of the body. She finds it satisfying that she can sometimes intervene early enough in a patient’s condition that can significantly improve their quality of life.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Riaz as the newest member of the OMC Medical Group with the opening of OMC Endocrinology,” says Antony Joseph, M.D, President, OMC Medical Group. “We will continue to expand OMC’s specialty clinics to serve the needs of the area residents and continue to be the healthcare provider of choice in the Ozarks. ”
OMC Endocrinology is located at 1115 Alaska Ave., Suite 111, in the OMC Doctor’s Pavillion, West Plains. Dr. Riaz sees patients Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call 417-505-7113 for more information or to make an appointment.
