An 81‑year‑old Ava man was killed Sunday afternoon after running into the path of a westbound pickup on Highway 76, ten miles east of Ava.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the crash happened at 3:05 p.m. A 17‑year‑old male from Norwood was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when the pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck. The truck sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m. by Lt. Nelson with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken to Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava. Troop G notes this is its 12th fatality of 2025, matching the total at this time last year.
