If you live in West Plains city limits, you may have gotten a letter saying that it’s unknown if your home has lead pipes. Cody Sanders with West Plains City Hall says that might strike fear in some, especially since the letter states that there is a potential health risk. But these letters are simply part of the Federal Lead and Copper Line Mandate, requiring that lines be identified, and doesn’t necessarily mean you have lead water pipes. And while the letter tells you how you can check your own lines, city water crews and a partner contracted company will canvass town to check the lines. Sanders says the process will take some time, but crews will continue to identify all water lines.
