Houston, Mo. – The former Texas County Sheriff James Sigman and the department’s former chief deputy Jennifer Tomaszewski were sentenced to probation in court today from charges in 2018.
Online court records state Sigman and Tomaszewski were found guilty on Felony Forgery charges and sentenced to 3 years of court-supervised probation.
This sentence comes from several charges in July of 2018 including robbery, misuse of information by a public servant, false impersonation, and endangering the welfare of a child. All charges except forgery were dropped in a September 2021 hearing.
Court documents allege violence and gross misconduct at the sheriff’s office that was reportedly allowed by Sigman while he was sheriff, with the incidents cited in the charges involving Tomaszewski, including allowing Tomaszewski to act as a law enforcement officer before she was certified, verbal and physical abuse of inmates, Tomaszewski reportedly pointing a firearm at bystanders while a search warrant was served, and both Sigman and Tomaszewski allowing a child into the prison to help feed inmates.
