Gainesville man dies in Saturday accident

According to Troop G, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol an 83-year-old man died Saturday in a one vehicle accident.

George Szabo of Gainesville was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, 76-year-old Willa Luthi, the vehicle’s driver, of Tecumseh was transported by air ambulance to a Springfield hospital with moderate injuries. The accident happened on U.S. 160, half mile west of Tecumseh. The vehicle ran of the right of the roadway, struck a sign and hit the ditch.

Szabo’s death is the 30th fatality reported by Troop G this year, compared to 34 at the same time in 2019.

Second Saturday accident

Seventy-seven-year-old Ralph Brown of Gainesville was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. The second accident happened on Missouri Route J, 10 miles east of Gainesville. Brown’s pickup truck ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, ran off the left side and struck a tree.
