TheĀ Gainesville School District announced that it will transition to level 3 of its reopening plan, meaning off-campus learning is set for September 4 – 11. In-person classes are set to resume Monday, Sept. 14.
Below is the email sent out to parents Thursday.
Gainesville R-V Community,
It is after great deliberation that we, in conjunction with the Ozark County Health Department, have decided it is in the best interest of the well-being of our students and staff members to move into our Level 3 Plan. Per the Back To School Plan published weeks ago, this means that learning can be transitioned to Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI), but that teachers will remain available to students for instruction and support. At this point, we have several students and staff members that are in quarantine and our educational process, as well as student health, is being very negatively impacted. We do not believe it is wise to continue on this path without making serious adjustments.
In order to make these adjustments, and better safeguard our students and staff, we will be moving to AMI exclusively from September 4th-14th. This means that students will connect to their instruction virtually, from home, starting this Friday, September 4th, and will return to in person instruction, Monday, September 14th. There will be no in-person instruction during this time. This will be a full district closure which will cause sports, extra-curricular and all school related events to temporarily cease during these dates.
During this closure, students and staff that are on quarantine will be able to finish their quarantine cycles. Our schools will be completely re-sanitized, and our teachers will be working on ensuring virtual instruction is carried out in the most effective and efficient ways possible.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but please know that this is not a decision we have come to lightly. We truly believe that this is the best step towards ensuring our ability to have students on campus in the long run.
We will send out further communication about how school will look when we reopen in the coming days. We will be reopening in Level 3 which may entail an alternative schedule, limiting attendance to sporting events, reduced in-building movements, and other modifications as outlined in the Back To School Plan. We are extremely grateful for the support we continually receive from our community and hope that you all understand how hard it was to come to this decision, but know that we truly believe it is the only smart decision we could come to at this time.
