Gassville man arrested for Unemployment Fraud on Friday

Mountain Home, AR. – A Gassville man was arrested on Friday on accusations of unemployment benefits fraud. 

Shannon Jamal Porter, age 53, is accused of applying for, and receiving, unemployment benefits while working at a Mountain Home supermarket between January and April of 2021. He is accused of receiving $5,352 in benefits he was not entitled to receive. Arkansas Workforce Services say the amount of restitution due, with penalties and interest, amounts to $8,098.08.

Porter is officially charged with felony theft of public benefits and a penalty violation habitual offender. He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.
