Glade Top Trail Fire Covers 1500 Acres

Mark Twain National Forest firefighters continue to actively fight the Sugar Fire on the Ava/Cassville/Willow Springs Ranger District. The fire is burning in the glades, about 12 miles south/southwest of Ava. The firefighters worked overnight to hold the fire. It is estimated to be around 1500 acres in size. Good progress was made overnight and this morning; and the fire is currently 60% contained.

The Douglas County Sheriff has contacted homeowners on the north end of the fire and several evacuations have occurred. Local volunteer fire departments, including those from Goodhope and Squires, have set up structure protection around homes near the fire. No structures have been lost.
