Grand jury adds victim tampering charges to woman accused of child sex crimes

On February 21, 2023, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department received information that inmate Shawna Ross had been using another inmate’s phone time to contact her victim. Previously, she had been charged with Statutory Rape with a victim under the age of 14, Statutory Sodomy with a victim under the age of 14, and two counts of Trafficking for the Purposes of Sexual Exploitation.

There had been three separate calls made to her victim. Ms. Ross did not use her phone profile to make these calls. Jail staff can prohibit an inmate from contacting someone when they use their accounts but not with other inmates’ accounts.
