Hartshorn, MO. – Law enforcement responded to a call earlier in November, wherein a store-owner on Highway KK was reported as being assaulted and nearly murdered in an altercation with another man from Hartshorn.
The victim stated that he got into an argument with the perpetrator, identified as Richard Burkett, 49. The argument led to blows as each man struck the other, but the situation reportedly changed when Burkett pulled out a firearm, aimed it at the victims head, and pulled the trigger.
The testimony stated that Burkett had acted surprised when the gun hadn’t fired, which led to the store-owner pulling their own firearm and telling Burkett to leave.
Burkett has an active probation and a parole violation warrant out of Oregon, but is not currently in custody.
