HCSO Rings in New Year with DWI Detail, SWAT Deployments

From the Howell County Sheriff’s Office:
The Howell County Sheriff’s Office experienced a busy New Year’s holiday this year.
On the night of December 31st, beginning at 8 pm and ending at 2 am, the Sheriff’s Office participated in a Driving While Intoxicated Saturation event and conducted 25 traffic stops.
The saturation event was designed to enhance roadway safety and decrease alcohol-related accidents and fatalities by targeting impaired or intoxicated drivers. To facilitate this effort, funds from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Driving While Intoxicated Enforcement Grant were utilized to cover the overtime pay for the deputies involved in the operation.
Later that evening a SWAT situation arose, prompting the SWAT Unit to respond to US 63 in West Plains. The situation started when a traffic stop from part of the Saturation Event led to a Howell County Deputy attempting to carry out a search warrant.
During the Swat call-out, deputies responded to another incident involving gunfire on County Road 8870 in West Plains. What started as a New Year’s celebration turned into an altercation.
Dakota Henson was arrested and taken to the Howell County Adult Detention Center, where he has been charged with Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon While Intoxicated, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by Exhibiting.
