A high-speed pursuit through West Plains ended in a crash and arrest after a suspect fled from a traffic stop initiated by the Howell County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, Corporal Travis D. Weaver attempted to pull over a vehicle on St. Louis Street after observing it failing to maintain its lane. However, the driver refused to yield to the deputy’s emergency lights and siren, instead fleeing at a high rate of speed through the city.
During the pursuit, the suspect reportedly ran multiple stop signs before losing control while attempting to negotiate a corner. The vehicle ultimately crashed into a tree in the front yard of an uninvolved resident’s home.
The driver, identified as Robert Alex McDaniel, age 38, was taken into custody at the scene. After further investigation, authorities determined that McDaniel was intoxicated at the time of the incident. He refused to submit a breath sample when requested.
McDaniel has been formally charged with Aggravated Fleeing a Stop or Detention and Driving While Intoxicated – Persistent Offender. His bond was set at $10,000.
