Howell County Added to Burn Ban List; Izard County Given “Disaster” Status Amid Drought

With the ongoing heat and rapid onset drought conditions, many communities are feeling the pinch.

Yesterday, Howell County has been added to the list of counties under a burn ban, per the County Emergency Management Agency. In addition, County Judge Eric Smith in Izard County designated the Arkansas county to be in Disaster status due to the extremely dry conditions.

While conditions are ripe for the spread of fire, residents of the Ozarks should remain vigilant for anything that could lead to a fire. 

These conditions are not expected to improve until rainfall and cooler temperatures begin to take place, leaving an expected time being at next week at the minimum. As we progress through this labor day weekend, the public is asked to avoid lighting any fires for any reason.
