Howell County Sheriff Warns of Recent Scam

West Plains, MO. – Scams are ever changing and have seen an increase in volume over the past year, with 4 scam alerts taking place in May, and at least one more happening just this month. The latest scam alert has come out of Howell County as the Howell County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement.

The scam making report rounds at this time takes the identity of a retired employee of the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, telling potential victims that they’ve missed two letters of notification for sex offender registration. This then leads to the scam artist negotiating for the payment of $1,500 in order to clear a warrant being issued for the victim’s arrest.
