West Plains, MO. – The Howell County Sheriff’s Office announced over the weekend that they have recently founded and began operations on a new taskforce.
It’s called the Howell County Regional DWI Taskforce, and it was made as a way to attempt to put in organized, focused effort in increasing roadway safety with the removal of impaired drivers from the roadways. This Taskforce comes with more specially trained personnel, including a Drug Recognition Expert who has received over 80 hours of classroom instruction and over 100 hours of field certification training.
On it’s first deployment on March 3rd, the newly developed Taskforce made four arrests and had 25 overall contacts. Of the four arrests that occurred, two were taken in on drug-related impairment.
The Regional DWI Taskforce was made possible through a grant provided by the Highway Safety Grant Program, a program made to help reduce the amount of crashes and injuries that occur on Missouri roadways.
