West Plains, MO. – Howell County Sheriff Brent Campbell, in conjunction with Michael Lewis of the Howell County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention Team, recently launched a new program, the Veterans Intervention Team Program.
This new program was created to help all veterans in a crisis. This program will help veterans learn how to advocate for themselves. When a veteran calls the crisis center with a need for help, the center will have a list of volunteer veterans who will show up with a cop. The veteran chosen will be a veteran with the same experiences so they will get the best help.
The Howell County Sheriff’s Office posted a video with Michael Lewis and William Hatcher explaining the purpose and goal of the new program. To watch it click here. William Hatcher, a community combat-veteran volunteer partner, talked about the tough times veterans have when they return.
If you are a veteran in crisis, you can call for help at 911, 988, or the Howell County Sheriff’s Office at 417-256-2544.
