Howell County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Potential Scam

The Howell County Sheriff’s Office warns you to be on the lookout for a scam that has been seen in other parts of the country. While there have been no local reports yet, using caution can prevent you from becoming a victim. It’s called a “brushing” scam, and it involves receiving an unexpected package in the mail from a retailer like Amazon or something similar. A QR code may prompt you to scan it to identify the sender. Do not scan the code! That could give scammers access to your phone, including all personal and financial information. If you get a suspicious package, contact the Howell County Sheriff’s Office.
